Altea Old Town
The town of Altea embodies both modern and old Spain. It is one of the most charming places on the Costa Blanca; sheltered by mountains and overlooking the sea, the old town is set on a hill above the waterfront. This picturesque village with its many little streets of immaculate white washed houses is a fascinating place to stroll around, exploring the boutiques and galleries. At the summit is the town square, Plaza de la Iglesia with its magnificent views and the church boasting one of the finest blue domes in the region.

Rest here in one of the outdoor cafes, and enjoy tapas and a drink. There are many restaurants, bars and numerous art galleries in the side streets. In summer the streets are pedestrianised and artists & craftsmen display their works. Altea has always attracted writers and artists because of its special ambience. From the old town its a short walk to the sea-front and the newer palm-lined esplanade packed with restaurants serving delicious international cuisines.

Culture
Altea is considered one of the most important cultural centres of the Valencian Community. There are a wide variety of cultural offerings, galleries and projects.

In August, Villa Gadea provides live musical accompaniment to probably the largest and most dramatic fusion of music and fireworks in Europe - based on an island in the bay the pyrotechnic display is reflected in the sea. It is a stunning event and people come from all over Spain to watch it.
